LIMA, New York, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- The release of The Craftsman marks Elim Publishing’s first venture into Christian children’s literature. The tender writing and clever watercolor illustrations by author Rob Vanderwerf present an allegory of God’s plan of salvation, designed for the 5-8 year-old child, as demonstrated through the lives of Billy the Toy Train, the Master Craftsman, and a shiny bridge-building visitor.

The Master Craftsman created a world of tracks for his friend Billy the Toy Train to enjoy to his heart’s content, with only one warning: Do not ride the South Rail. Alas, one day Billy’s curiosity about the South Rail gets the better of him. The Craftsman discovers Billy’s disobedience, and a giant canyon appears, separating Billy from his maker. Only a bright shiny bridge-building visitor can reunite Billy with the Craftsman.

The Craftsman communicates the same principles found in adult tracts, such as “The Bridge Illustration” by NavPress and “Steps To Peace With God” by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. As an Elim Publishing editor remarked: “This gem of a book presents the good news of a Saving Friend who can bring each of us back into loving relationship with our Creator. I see little Billy chugging his way into hearts across the world through Sunday School classes and being tucked into missionaries’ teaching materials, reaching children and adults alike, as they see God’s saving grace when playful Billy’s pride and disobedience get him in trouble.”

The Craftsman is Elim Publishing first children’s book, and the first project with extensive color illustrations throughout. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Lima, NY, Elim Publishing is dedicated to producing Christian discipleship resources for small people groups around the world. With new technology opening the doors to affordable printing in many more languages, EP helps ministries, churches and individuals publish their own Christian discipleship materials in the United States to fund the overseas ministry.
